Old News

Lamplighter

This Wednesday we play the Lamplighter, with The Shine On and Edmund. We kick off the show at about 9pm.

April Fools

In high school I was always told that Aprils Fools actually ended at noon...but I'm pretty sure that was a rouse invented by teachers to try to avoid more hijinks throughout the day.

Regardless, we're playing a benefit concert at Heritage Hall this Wednesday, April 4th, and that's no joke.

Joining us for the night are The Sessions, Said the Whale, and Shades of Gray. The Sessions recently won Emergenza, an international battle of the bands with thousands of competitors, and now they're in the studio working with legendary producer Bob Rock (The Tragically Hip, Metallica). In other words, it's going to be a good show.

See you there. Doors at 8:00, music at 8:30. All proceeds go the Oaktree Foundation, in support of sustainable, community-based education.

BOBS Results

The UBC Battle of the Bands was last night. In the end, Retrofire was crowned the winner, and they put on an amazing show, so congratulations! The Hotel Lobbyists were the runner-up.

Battle Royale

We made it to the UBC Battle of the Bands finals! The showdown is on March 22nd. UPDATE: We will be on at 11pm sharp. See you then.

UBC Battle of the Bands

Think of it as musical wine tasting: no swallowing allowed. Each band will play a short set and the audience will rate the nose, finish, and aftertaste. Heckling is mandatory. Your support is much appreciated.

It's this Thursday at the Pit. It's free.

UPDATE: Doors open at 8pm, the music starts at 9pm, and we're on somewhere in the middle. Plan to show up around 10:30pm to see us, or earlier to watch a few of the other bands.

David Suzuki

"What this campus needs is a pub!" exclaimed UBC's Associate Professor of Zoology, David Suzuki, in 1968. [source]

And what better to go in a pub then live music?

We're back on stage Saturday, March 3rd, for the Doctor's Without Borders benefit concert at the Pit, which is in the basement of the SUB at UBC. Tickets are $10 at the door. This promises to be a night that would make even David Suzuki proud - we're playing with two great bands, James Lamb and the Kitchen, and all proceeds of the concert go to Doctor's Without Borders.

Doors are at 9pm, and we're up second at 10pm. See you there.

Buffalo Club (last night's show)

If you weren't able to come down because of the schedule mix-up, we'd like to offer you a full refund of your ticket - just talk to whoever you bought your ticket from.

Our CD has been printed, and can be yours for $5. Online ordering (including iTunes) is coming soon.

Next show lineup change

Those of you on the mailing list know that we told you Said the Whale will be playing at our next show at the Nelson Street Cafe. Well, we lied. James Lamb will be there with us instead.

Top 5 Things We Learned in 2006

5. Being in a music video is hard work (mime-playing an instrument for a full 8-hour shooting day is more tiring than it looks)
4. The light above the stage at the Backstage Lounge changes colour (we still don't know why or when)
3. Digital cameras are easy to use, but you can't beat old-fashioned film
2. The Vancouver Rockspace says the top cover song played by practicing bands is Hashpipe by weezer; from what we've heard through the walls, we tend to agree
1. The crowd makes the show!

Happy 2007! To ring in the new year, we've posted some of the final EP tracks up at our Myspace and on the TRM Jukebox on this site.

Live Show Review

Streethawk Magazine has some kind words to say about our latest show.

EP Update

It's been a long time coming, but our EP has just been mastered, so after we get our paperwork in order, we're going to send it off to the printers. You can expect our EP Release Party sometime in the new year.

Thanks

Thanks to the bands, and everyone who came down on Friday for the show.

Mount Pleasant Community Centre - This Friday!

We're playing a show this Friday with Lotus Child, WordsOverMusic, and Rene Thomas. These are some amazing bands, so come on down to see them and us.

The show starts at 8:30 and we're up second, shortly after 9pm. Cover is just $5 before 9pm ($7 after) so get there early! The community centre is at 16th and Ontario (close to Main). It's less than a 10 minute walk from the B-Line stop at Broadway and Main. A link to a map is on our Shows page.

Backstage Lounge

A quick update - we have back to back Thursday Backstage Lounge shows coming up this week and next, and we'd love to see you at one or both of those shows.

Also, we've finished recording all tracks for our upcoming release, so we're nearing the completing of the EP! Look for more details soon.

Trees Part 2

So we had a lot of fun last week playing at Darby's, and we'll have some pictures from the show up soon. If you missed it (or even if you saw it) come down to Trees Coffee House tomorrow and hear us play acoustic. We're on at 9pm. Go to the Shows page for more info. Best cheesecake in town!

The Return of the Reasonable Men

It's been many months since we've played a show, what with our work on the EP and the music video. We have lots of new songs to play for you, so don't miss out.

We're back at Darby's Pub this Thursday, October 5th, as part of a benefit concert for the African Development Initiative. The show starts at 8:00pm and we're on at 8:45pm. Cover is $8 and proceeds go to charity. See you then!

New Songs

At long last, some songs from our upcoming EP are up! It's going be a little while until the EP is mastered and packaged, but we've got a taste of what's to come up here on the web.

Use the TRM Jukebox to listen, or visit our Myspace site.

P.S. To view the music video teaser again, use the link in the sidebar of this page.

Music Video

The Reasonable Men are working with their friend and colleague Chris Anaka, who is directing the 'Undersold' shoot, with everyone's favourite drummer Nathan Holley acting as executive producer.

We'll have a teaser and some pictures of the video shoot up shortly.

Studio Update

This is Colin, reporting in after a weekend in the studio. The Factory was huge and amazing and a very classy establishment. We got some groundwork recording done in there.

Today we did some more work at the Arts Institute, working on overdubs and lead parts.

Studio Break

So after fun in the sun at the Cates Park show, we are headed into the studio for the next couple of weeks to record our debut EP.

We'll be working with our good friend and sound engineer Emmet Stutt, and be using the facilities of the Factory, where music greats such as Metallica, AC/DC and Aerosmith have all recorded.

The statement of the great mint

Hey all, the Reasonable Men checking in after two shows in a row.

The Standard is a classy place, and Trees is a really cozy coffee shop. Special thanks to John Pippus for hosting at Trees, and inviting us to play.

The Lynnwood

Thanks to everyone who stayed up late on a Tuesday to listen to us play.

Darby's! Darby's! Darby's! Darby's!

This Saturday at 9pm, come on down to Darby's Pub (at 4th and Macdonald - map on the Shows page)! Free show! The Reasonable Men! Did we mention it was free?

Spring Sprint Event

Earlier this evening we played at Riverfront Park for the Brain Tumour Foundation Spring Sprint Event. They raised over $14,000 for brain tumour research, and despite some weather difficulties (it was raining) and some technical difficulties (Colin's keyboard blew the power generator...luckily there was a backup) it was a great event.

Pictures of the show are available on the photos page!

Our Mailing List - Join it!

Our mailing list is up and it should be operational. It's on the main page here, on the bar to your right.

If you join it, we'll keep you up to date with all the latest Reasonable Men news.

UBC End of Exams Concert

Thanks to everyone who came out to UBC to see our show last night. Special thanks to Emmet Stutt for making everything sound great, and to the other 3 bands - they all put on amazing shows.

We are getting set to schedule a bunch of shows for the summertime, so keep checking back here for updates!

Sound Engineering

The Reasonable Men are proud to announce that they will be working with Emmet Stutt, local sound engineer.

We will be heading to the studio this summer to do some recordings...more news as it comes.
